Too busy translating to get around to designing my website 😅

Just kidding! (sort of)

Looking for a Spanish to English translator (or vice versa)? Do you need an experienced subtitler? Someone who’ll translate naturally and with her heart and soul?

A BIT ABOUT ME

I’m Piper Rose, creator of Prose Translations, a little passion project of mine where I’ve turned my lifelong hobby into my professional career.

I grew up in a bilingual and bicultural household, hopping back and forth from the US to Spain. Some of my best childhood memories were going with my parents and siblings to Blockbuster to pick out movies for the weekend, and re-watching them over and over —and over— before we had to return them on Monday. So you could say film has always been a big part of my life.

When I wasn’t playing basketball or learning how to play covers on the guitar (thank you, YouTube!), I was that typical teenage girl who’d watch anime in Japanese with English subtitles or spend her afternoons teaching herself Russian, just for the fun of it. If I could go back and tell that girl she’d be the one creating subtitles for others and get paid for it, she wouldn’t have believed– Well, actually, she would’ve. And she did.

Those quirky pastimes of mine led me to study a BA in Translation and Interpreting and then specialize with a Master’s Degree in Localization and Subtitling. I’ve been freelancing for six years now and loving every bit of it! I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.

Why prose?

I’m a fan of everyday speech. I love hearing all the different ways people express themselves and describe the world around them. Not just their choice of words, but their pronunciation, intonation, grammar, and even emojis. 😉 All these aspects communicate far more than just the words people utter, adding an extra layer of complexity that I just find fascinating.

What I’m not a fan of, though, is censorship and overcorrecting. People cuss, people make mistakes and people say stupid shit (yes, I said it). But I believe in staying true to the original message. And with this, I don’t mean just words; I mean intention.

Translation is all about pragmatics.

-Me (though someone before me probably said it too)

It’s not what you say, but how you say it, when, where, to whom… Every single part of the context should be taken into account to accurately translate so the target audience gets it while still staying true to the original version.
